Here are some of our favorite ways to us our oils & vinegars:
Salad Dressings & Vinaigarettes:
Bring your salads to a new level!
Remember, oil & vinegar do not mix well so they need to be emulsified so they stick evenly on your salad. It is best to mix your dressing just before serving.
- Choose a pairing that appeals to you.
- Pour the desired vinegar into a small bowl. If you are new to making dressing, start with a 50/50 ratio, but this can be adjusted to your personal tastes. For a regular salad, try 1/4 cup of vinegar.
- Add a little salt & pepper if desired (this can be done now or at the end).
- Whisk the vinegar as you slowly drizzle the oil into the bowl. Continue to whisk the oil & vinegar until they start to bubble & the color will start to lighten. As you get close, it will get a sheen as they thicken & are no longer separating. It will take a few minutes.
- Pour the dressing evenly on your salad.
Marinades |
Most meats can be enhanced by using a marinade, especially if you are going to grill them.
- Combine all of the ingredients by whisking them together in a bowl, or place them into your blender and blend.
- In a seal-able container or large zip lock bag, place your meat (any meat can be used, plus tofu) and thoroughly coat with the marinade.
- Refrigerate and marinate for a minimum of 1 hour, but 4-6 hours or overnight is recommended in most cases).
- Turning the meat at least once during the process so the marinade is evenly distributed.
Reductions & Sauces |
A simple way to enhance any meal is to make a sauce to pour over your meats, vegetables, potatoes, etc. Any of our balsamics can be made into a sauce by doing a simple reduction. Reducing thickens the vinegar, using a flavored vinegar will provide you with a tasty sauce.
- Pour the vinegar in a small saucepan. (usually about twice the amount you want to end up with).
- On a medium low heat, let the vinegar simmer until it thickens to the desired consistency.
- Use it while it is still hot, or you can refrigerate it & store it until needed.
Vegetables |
Whether steaming, poaching or roasting, your vegetables can easily go from boring to exciting by using adding a flavored olive oil or balsamic vinegar.
Desserts |
- Our oils and vinegars can be used in your baking of cakes & cookies by substituting butter or oil with our flavored olive oils.
- Balsamic vinegars can be pored over vanilla ice cream or pudding.
